I’m glad that Portland’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra decided on using their song “Thought Ballune” as the basis for their next video, since choosing between it and “How Can U Luv Me” for my 15th Favorite Song Of 2011 was a pretty rough decision. Luckily, now I get a chance to feature both! The new video chronicles the adventures of a young Patrick Carney (?) and his attempts at courting what appears to be a relative of Aubrey Plaza. With young love already being hard enough to navigate as it is, I can’t imagine trying to lock down my date at party where UMO is in charge of the party favors. The creepy family and the resulting head floating hi-jinks are a perfect personification of “Thought Ballune”s hazy, lost-in-time sound. Now if only I could get my hands on that cupcake recipe.
