Man Man at Union Transfer

Man Man, who have managed to sit at the top of many best-of lists for 2011 (including our own), played to a sold out crowd in their hometown of Philadelphia last Saturday. Between the ironic costumes in the crowd, an abundance of war painted faces, and the sight of hipsters in a mosh pit, it was quite an experience.

The music certainly didn’t disappoint either. The main thing that stood out was the energy behind the performance. Someone was always roaming around the stage, switching instruments, hitting this or banging on that. This is not a band content to just get through the tunes. Instead of playing note for note album versions, they attacked each song with a sense of organized chaos. After almost two hours, they finally closed things out with a double encore.

Their newest album, Life Fantastic, is out on Anti Records.
